Our Work

At Media Health & Rights Initiative of Nigeria (MHR), our work is driven by a deep commitment to transforming lives and communities through strategic interventions in Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR), Advocacy, Gender Equality, Health Justice, and Mental Health & Psychosocial Support. We design and implement community-led projects that empower marginalized populations to claim their rights, challenge harmful societal norms, and access essential health services. By leveraging innovative digital communications, capacity-building initiatives, and robust policy advocacy, we create safe spaces for open dialogue and empower individuals to drive sustainable social change. Our comprehensive approach ensures that every initiative from educating on safe sexual practices to providing empathetic mental health support is culturally relevant and impactful, building a future where equitable access to health and justice is not just an aspiration but a reality for all.

Uniting Voices for Change  SRHR Summit

In October 2024, MHR hosted the inaugural SRHR Summit 1.0, a landmark event designed to foster an open, honest dialogue around safe abortion programming and broader sexual and reproductive health rights in Nigeria. This summit was supported by ONG RAES and brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including health professionals, media experts, reproductive rights advocates and policymakers, all united by a shared commitment to transform the narrative around contraception and safe abortion. The summit featured panel discussions, interactive sessions, and the screening of the Silent Struggles documentary.

SRHR Summit 1.0 served as a catalyst for actionable insights and collaborative partnerships aimed at dismantling the stigma that surrounds abortion in Nigeria. Experts and advocates explored innovative strategies to improve safe abortion programming, including enhanced policy communication, community-led advocacy, and the integration of digital tools for comprehensive support. The summit emphasized the importance of building empathy, promoting evidence-based practices, and creating safe spaces for dialogue as key components that are critical for shifting harmful narratives and fostering a culture of understanding and support. As a result, the event not only raised awareness about the urgent need for change but also laid the groundwork for future initiatives that will continue to empower women, amplify marginalized voices, and drive sustainable improvements in sexual and reproductive health across Nigeria.
